33 members and guests of the Waud Wine Club enjoyed a fantastic ‘Dine with Bordeaux‘ themed evening at the excellent Ranmore restaurant at Reigate Heath Golf Club. We had designed a rock star menu with celebrity chef, Tony Tobin, that was carefully matched with four of our favourite wines from Bordeaux.
After a reception thirst quencher of Rathfinny Classic Cuvee NV, we sat down and started with Tuilerie du Puy ‘Cuvee 1616’ 2020. This super white wine from Entre-Deux-Mers in Bordeaux is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle – it was a lovely pairing with the Lobster, Salmon and White Crabmeat Scotch Egg to start.
Chateau L’Enclos Pomerol 2014 then partnered our next course of Quail Boudin Blanc En ‘Croute’. Pomerol is a crowd favourite – and this vintage is drinking exceptionally well right now.
The star of the show for the red wines was the Chateau Pontet Canet 2014. This is a wine we do have featuring among our investment syndicates – so it was a treat for a number of them in the room to try it first hand. Paired with Seared Fillet of Beef was a very strong pairing.
To finish the meal off in style, we enjoyed a Dark Chocolate Mousse, that was partnered up with a Sauternes that we sourced especially for the dinner. Château Suduiraut 2003 was a beautiful amber colour, gorgeous tropical fruits with a terrific mouthfeel.
All in all, an excellent return after a long hiatus for the Waud Wine Club – but certainly an event to remember.
