Description
Matured in 60% new French oak barrels, the Langoa Barton 2019 has expressive notes of fresh red fruits like redcurrants and cherries, as well as blueberries and lavender with charred cedar on the finish. The palate is well-structured with excellent oak integration, smooth ripe tannins, and a long, pleasing finish. This wine will cellar well over the next couple of decades.
Purchased by Hugh Barton in 1820, the Langoa Barton estate was classified as a Third Growth during the famous 1855 classification. Today, the Saint Julien estate remains in the hands of the Barton family, alongside Second Classified Growth, Leoville Barton, which was purchased in 1826. Alongside the owners of Mouton-Rothschild, the Barton family are one of the longest-standing winemaking families in Bordeaux. Their 20 hectares of vineyard are planted to 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 11% Cabernet Franc, with an average vine age of 37 years. The wines of Langoa Barton are aged in 60% new French oak for 18 months before bottling. The wines of both Langoa and Leoville are produced and matured in exactly the same way – two powerhouse wines of the Saint Julien appellation.
